BEAUMONT – A Harris County widower is seeking more than $1 million after his 31-year-old wife was killed on a construction site in Beaumont.

Zachary Lee Leatherwood, individually and as next friend and natural father of his two minor daughters, filed a complaint on Dec. 29, 2017, in the Jefferson County District Court against Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals Inc. and Echo Maintenance LLC citing the Texas Wrongful Death Statute.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 1, 2017, plaintiffs' wife and mother Yesenia Coronado Espinoza was fatally injured when she was struck by a pipe that was being moved during construction of ExxonMobil's new SCANfining unit. The suit states Espinoza was employee of Echo at the time of the incident and that Bechtel was in control of the construction.

The plaintiffs hold Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals Inc. and Echo Maintenance LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to adopt and implement safety protocols at the facility and failed to properly handle the pipe while trying to position it.

The plaintiffs seek actual and compensatory damages of no less than $1 million, all costs of court, and such other and further relief that are legal and equitable. He is represented by Richard Warren Mithoff, Janiel L. Jordan and Warner V. Hocker of Mithoff Law in Houston.
