Former Bonham Independent School District employee files age discrimination complaint

Wrongful term 10

SHERMAN – A former employee of a school district alleges he was terminated and replaced by two younger and less-experienced people.

John Shackelford filed a complaint on Jan. 16 in the Sherman District of the Eastern District of Texas against Bonham Independent School District alleging that the former employer violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by the defendant as director of transportation/maintenance. The suit states he was terminated Aug. 27, 2016, at the age of 51 and replaced by two people in their 30s.

The plaintiff holds Bonham Independent School District responsible because the defendant allegedly breached his two-year contract because the board made no determination to terminate him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual damages in an amount within the jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest, reinstatement, liquidated damages, attorney's fees, costs and such other lawful and equitable relief. He is represented by Ronald R. Huff in Sherman.
