Phone 08

SHERMAN – A Gregg County consumer alleges a debt collector is illegally attempting to collect a home equity loan that was discharged in bankruptcy.

L.G. Campbell III filed a complaint on Jan. 30 in the Sherman District of the Eastern District of Texas against Selene Finance LP alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Texas Debt Collection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was damaged from receiving several collection attempts from the defendant despite receiving a discharge in his bankruptcy case in 2016.

The plaintiff holds Selene Finance LP responsible because the defendant allegedly obtained consumer reports from credit reporting agencies in violation of his right to privacy and attempted to collect on a discharged debt.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages, actual damages, court costs, punitive damages, interest and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by James J. Manchee and Marilyn S. Altamira of Manchee Law Firm in Plano.
