Woman alleges pregnancy, sex were factors in termination from Harrison Kornberg Architects

Wrongful term 11

HOUSTON – A Houston-based architecture firm is alleged to have discriminated against an employee because of her sex and pregnancy.

Carolina Jaramillo filed a complaint on Feb. 16 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Harrison Kornberg Architects LLC alleging violation of the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by the defendant as an architectural designer and went on maternity leave in March 2016. She alleges that despite performing work in a satisfactory manner, she was terminated on July 5, 2016, after attempting to make arrangements to return from her maternity leave.

The plaintiff holds Harrison Kornberg Architects LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly made the decision to terminate her while she was still out on leave.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay; reinstatement or, in the alternative, front pay; compensatory and punitive damages; pre- and post-judgment interest; attorneys’ fees, costs and such other equitable relief. She is represented by Nitin Sud of Sud Law PC in Bellaire.
