HOUSTON – With about a month left before its third anniversary, a state district medical malpractice lawsuit was recently disposed with the plaintiff scoring a $6.6 million judgment in her favor.

Harris County District Court records show a local jury awarded the amount to Kara Nguyen in her case against Dr. Ziad Amr and Dr. Andre Arash Lighvani on Feb. 15. Amr’s and Lighvani’s co-defendant, Dr. Jorge Leiva, was found not to be negligent.

According to the charge of the court, the jury reached an 11-1 verdict.

Nguyen filed the suit on Mar. 28, 2014 claiming she received poor medical treatment while she was a patient at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital in March and April of 2012.

She was represented by Gregory Q. Fibich, Russell S. Briggs, and Kenneth T. Fibich of the law firm Fibich, Leebron, Copeland & Briggs in Houston.
