Law money 12

GALVESTON – A Brownsville man alleges his former slaughterhouse employer failed to pay him the correct rate for overtime work.

Felix Picasso filed a complaint on Feb. 27 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Halal Beasley Ranch LLC and Monowar Aziz alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between May 2017 and October 2017, he was employed by the defendants as a meat cutter and was paid a rate of $400 per workweek. He alleges he regularly worked in excess of 40 hours per week.

The plaintiff holds Halal Beasley Ranch LLC and Aziz responsible because the defendants allegedly violated the FLSA by failing to compensate him at a rate of no less than one-and-one-half times his regular rate of pay for each hour worked in excess of 40 per week.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks unpaid wages, liquidated damages, attorney’s fee and costs and such other relief as the court may find proper. He is represented by Charles L. Scalise and Daniel B. Ross of Ross Law Group in Austin.
