Man alleges race, religion factors in discriminatory treatment by Savage Services Corp.

Wrongful term 07

HOUSTON – A Houston man alleges his race and religion were factors in discriminatory treatment by his former employer.

Alvin Garza filed a complaint on March 12 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Savage Services Corp. alleging that the Utah corporation violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by the defendant as director of health, safety and environmental in March 2013. He alleges he was the only Hispanic employee in the office and that "Mormon employees of defendant were afforded more fair treatment."

The plaintiff alleges that "he was discriminated against regarding the terms and conditions of his employment because of his religion, his Hispanic race, and that he was subsequently retaliated against and terminated for engaging in protected activity when he reported and/or opposed the discrimination."

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and such other just and proper relief. He is represented by Joshua A. Verde of The Verde Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
