Former Texas Children's Hospital employee files age discrimination complaint

Wrongful term 12

HOUSTON – A Houston woman alleges her age was a factor in her termination from a health care facility.

Suzanne Zerkel filed a complaint on April 9 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Texas Children's Hospital alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began working for the defendant in 1999 and she alleges that she was subjected to unwelcome remarks about her age. She alleges she reported the age-based harassment in July 2013. The suit states she was terminated in December 2014 and that she was older than 40 at the time of her termination.

The plaintiff holds Texas Children's Hospital responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against her for reporting the harassment and terminated her for requesting accommodations to extend her modified work schedule.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay, front pay, disbursement of retirement benefits, compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and costs and such other and further relief. She is represented by Connor Throckmorton and Bruce A. Coane of Coane and Associates PLLC in Houston.
