Woman alleges age was a factor in her termination from Region IV ESC

Wrongful term 04

MARSHALL – A Winona woman alleges she was terminated from her job as a family service worker because of her age.

Carolyn Lewis filed a complaint on April 12 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Region IV ESC alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant in 1998 and was 66 years old at the time of her termination in January 2017. She alleges that prior to her termination, she was wrongly accused of failing to report a child safety incident. She alleges she was replaced by employee her late 30s or early 40s.

The plaintiff holds Region IV ESC responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated her because of her age.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay for which she would have earned and related monetary benefits with interest, actual damages, attorney fees, costs and such other just and proper relief. She is represented by William S. Hommel Jr. of Hommel Law Firm in Tyler.
