Motorist alleges Houston police cruiser caused damages to vehicle

Car accident 17

HOUSTON – A Houston man alleges his vehicle sustained more than $20,000 in damages after it was struck by a Houston police cruiser.

Casey Lee Goosby filed a complaint on April 12 in the Harris County District Court against the city of Houston alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 15, 2017, he was driving his 2015 Maserati Ghibli at the intersection of 2400 Polk Street and 1300 Dowling Street in Houston when the police car driven by defendant's employee, police officer Andrew Valadez, struck the plaintiff's vehicle. He alleges he suffered injuries that resulted in pain and suffering and damages to the vehicle in excess of $25,000.

The plaintiff holds the city of Houston responsible because police officer Valadez allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout and operated his vehicle at a rate of speed greater than what a person under ordinary prudence would have traveled under the same or similar circumstances.

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief of less than $100,000 and such other lawful and equitable relief. He is represented by G. Riley Hetherington of The Hetherington Law Firm in Houston.
