Woman alleges Beaumont Independent School District terminated her in retaliation for report

Wrongful term 04

BEAUMONT – A former Beaumont Independent School District employee alleges she was wrongfully terminated after reporting a suspected theft.

Catherine Tanner Bobbitt filed a complaint on April 9 in the Jefferson County District Court against Beaumont Independent School District, et al. citing the Texas Whistleblower Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 29, 2017, she reported in good faith a suspected theft to Beaumont ISD police officers. She alleges she was terminated July 24, 2017, on allegations that she engaged in "unprofessional conduct" with the officers during the investigation and used profanity.

The plaintiff holds Beaumont Independent School District, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly retaliated against her and terminated her employment for reporting criminal activity within the district.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, prejudgment interest, attorney's fees and any other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Steve C. Dollinger in Houston.
