BEAUMONT – The city of Port Arthur is one of two defendants facing a suit from a Beaumont woman who alleges she was injured due to an open drainage hole.

Lerenda Mickens filed a complaint on May 7 in the Jefferson County District Court against the city of Port Arthur and Texas Department of Transportation alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May 20, 2016, she was walking on or near the sidewalk near Gulfway Drive when she slipped into an open drainage hole and was injured. She alleges she sustained a deep laceration on her left shin that required stitches.

The plaintiff holds the city of Port Arthur and Texas Department of Transportation responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly maintain the location of the incident.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for damages, together with all legal interest, including pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of suit, and for such other relief to which may be justly entitled. She is represented by Jonathan C. Juhan of J.J. Bragg in Beaumont.
