Friendswood woman claims Houston Auto Auction sold her defective Mini Cooper

HOUSTON – A Friendswood woman alleges she purchased a defective vehicle from Houston Auto Auction, Inc.

Patricia Shaw filed a lawsuit against the business on May 29 in the Harris County 215th District Court, asserting the defendant performed shoddy repairs on a 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman it sold her.

The suit explains that Shaw initially made a $400 cash deposit on the car, which the dealership reportedly guaranteed had no major defects. She did not pick the vehicle up until it was installed with a new alternator.

According to the plaintiff, she drove the Mini Cooper to the respondent’s service department for further repairs when it “began emitting smoke and broke down on the side of the road.”

Shaw adds the defendant informed her that she would need to pay $19,000 to fix the car.

“The plaintiff has suffered a total of $8,422 in direct and consequential damages as a result of the acts of the defendant,” the original petition says.

Terry W. Vanderpool of the law firm Sixta & Associates, P.C. in Friendswood is representing Shaw.
