Couple says bus to megachurch lacked bottom stair, caused wife to injure shoulder, head

HOUSTON – A Harris County couple has pursued legal action after the wife sustained injuries while disembarking a bus near a megachurch a few a months ago.

Mari and Ruben Serna filed a lawsuit against A Ambassador Limousine & Transportation, Inc., doing business as A Ambassador Charter & Shuttle Services; A Ambassador Limousine & Transportation, Inc., doing business as CityCar Services Worldwide; and Avanti Int’l Transportation, Ltd. in the Harris County 215th District Court on June 4.

The plaintiffs explain that they rode the aforementioned bus, which was owned and operated by the defendants to Lakewood Church last April 1. According to the original petition, the vehicle “was defective in that the bottom stair was either missing or did not deploy prior to passengers going down the stairs.”

“The plaintiff, Mari Serna, fell as she was disembarking from the bus violently wrenching her shoulder and striking her head on the concrete wall adjacent to where the bus was parked,” court documents state. “Feeling disoriented, the plaintiff, along with her husband, went to the church service to sit down and attempt to recover from her fall.”

Per the Sernas, the respondents’ driver failed to warn them about the defective condition and did nothing to help them “despite the fact he witnessed the incident.”

Consequently, the plaintiffs seek unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

They are represented by Tamera L. Venzke and John P. Venzke of The Venzke Law Firm, P.C. in Houston.
