Locke Lord LLP issued the following announcement on Sept. 4.

Paul Neufeld has joined Locke Lord’s Houston and London offices as a Partner in the Firm’s International Arbitration Practice Group. Neufeld, who is licensed to practice in the United States and the UK, brings to the Firm strong international arbitration and litigation experience representing clients in proceedings under many different types of arbitration rules in both commercial and treaty arbitration cases and will provide even greater depth to Locke Lord’s International Arbitration Practice Group.

Neufeld comes to Locke Lord from Norton Rose Fulbright. He has argued before juries, judges and tribunals in the United States, Middle East and around the world. In addition to helping clients resolve commercial and investor-state disputes, he also advises on structuring cross-border transactions and investments. He is admitted in Texas, New York, England and Wales (Solicitor) and has full rights of audience in the DIFC Courts, Dubai, UAE, where he was previously based.

“Paul is an incredibly bright and personable lawyer, and his vast experience representing clients in the energy sector makes him a great addition to our Houston office, where he will work alongside many of the country’s top energy lawyers. His addition is reflective of our commitment to growing the Houston office with exceptional lawyers across a number of key practice areas,” said Laura Edrington, Managing Partner of Locke Lord’s Houston office.

“Paul’s arrival combined with the recent additions of International Arbitration Partner Ronald Sum and his team in Hong Kong highlights the Firm’s commitment to growing our international arbitration team,” said David Harrell, Chair of Locke Lord’s International Arbitration Practice Group. “The demand for international arbitration continues to increase, and clients are looking for us to have a deep bench of lawyers with unique skill sets and knowledge in varying industries and regions. Paul adds impressive depth to our already strong practice, particularly in the energy, defense and construction industries.”

“I am thrilled to join such a well-rounded team at a highly respected Firm with an impressive global reach,” said Neufeld. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues as we expand upon the Firm’s international arbitration capabilities in Houston and globally to better serve client needs.”

Neufeld has taught at the University of Rhode Island and Providence College and is currently co-author of Saudi Arabia for the Dispute Resolution Review, which covers all aspects of litigation and arbitration globally. He is a former member of the DIFC Courts' Users' Committee and a current advisory board member for the Institute for Transnational Arbitration. Neufeld is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston and the American Business Council in Dubai.
