DLA PIPER: Richard Cheng joins DLA Piper's Corporate practice in Dallas

Partnership

DLA Piper issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.

DLA Piper announced today that Richard Cheng has joined the firm's Corporate practice as a partner in Dallas.

Cheng focuses his practice on corporate transactions, regulatory and compliance matters, and administrative appeals. As part of his extensive healthcare law practice, he represents skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, home health agencies, community hospitals, physician groups, hospices, labs, pharmacies, rehabilitation providers, urgent care centers, free standing ERs, digital healthcare companies, medical spas, wellness providers and regulated products providers.

He also has considerable experience representing clients in matters involving Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, HIPAA, HITECH Act, the Civil Monetary Penalties Law, Medicare conditions of participation and other healthcare regulatory issues.

"Richard's skillset will add much-needed depth to our capabilities in an increasingly complex area of law," said Joe Alexander, global co-chair of DLA Piper's Corporate and Private Equity practices. "Healthcare private equity firms and other clients in the healthcare sector are increasingly in need of sophisticated counsel on a broad range of regulatory issues, and Richard is ideally suited to provide the guidance they demand."

"Richard's addition is another important step in the strategic growth of the Dallas office, as well as the growth of our healthcare capabilities in Texas and throughout the firm," said Marc Katz, managing partner of the firm's Dallas office. "We are thrilled to welcome him on board."

Cheng is the latest partner to join the Dallas office, which has also recently added Litigation partners Daniel Tobey, Jason Lewis, Jason Hopkins, Rob Hoffman, Michael Moore and Matthew Nickel; Employment partners Marc Katz and Isabel Crosby; and Corporate partner Steven Bartz, growing from less than ten attorneys to more than 30 over the past year. This is in addition to the firm's expansion in Austin, which has included Corporate partners David Parrish, Nicole Brennig, Elise Green, Philip Svahn, Sara Stinnett and Richard Cardillo. These additions are part of a significant expansion of DLA Piper's presence in Texas in the last year, bringing the firm from approximately 60 lawyers to more than 100 currently.

Cheng received his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University, M.B.A. from the University of Memphis, B.S.O.T/MOT in occupational therapy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and his graduate certificate in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center. Cheng is certified in health care compliance (CHC) through the certification compliance board (CCB).
