Mayer Brown and Tauil & Chequer Advogados (T&C), in association with Mayer Brown, advised on two transactions named “Deal of the Year” in the Project Finance and Restructuring categories at the International Financial Law Review (IFLR)’s Americas Awards 2019, which celebrated legally innovative deals of 2018 and the teams and individuals that completed them. The winning transactions are described below.
Porto de Sergipe I Thermoelectric Complex: Project Finance Deal of the Year
Mayer Brown and T&C lawyers represented GE Capital as legal advisor for the Porto de Sergipe I liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant arranged by Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe (CELSE). The project raised approximately $1.47 billion through bond buyers and multilateral lenders. The team was led by Banking & Finance partner Eduardo Lima (São Paulo) and included: Banking & Finance partner Luis Montes (São Paulo), associates Ingrid Pistili and Theodoro Scott (both São Paulo); and Corporate & Securities partner Jose Valera (Houston) and partner Debora Yanasse (Rio de Janeiro).
Oi Group: Restructuring Deal of the Year
T&C lawyers represented Bank of New York Mellon, as trustee, for the notes Oi Group has issued in the international financial markets in connection with Oi Group judicial reorganization case. The team was led by Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Insolvency partner Leonardo Morato and included: partner Luciana Celidonio and associate Olivia Mesquita (all São Paulo).
