Greenberg Traurig LLP issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.

Charles “Skip” Watson, a shareholder in the Austin office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been honored with the 2019 Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award by the Texas Center for Legal Ethics.

Named for former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Jack Pope, the prestigious award is given each year to a judge or attorney who personifies the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in appellate law.

For over four decades, Watson has represented clients in high-stakes appeals. He advises the Texas Supreme Court as an appointed member of its 50-member Rules Advisory Committee and chaired the State Bar committee that drafted the Standards for Appellate Conduct adopted by the Texas Supreme Court and the Court of Criminal Appeals. In addition, he is one of fewer than 300 appellate attorneys nationally elected as a fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.

“Skip is an extraordinary and rare talent, emblematic of our appellate group,” said Dale Wainwright, co-chair of the firm's Appellate Practice and chair of the Texas Appellate Practice. “It is because of attorneys like Skip that clients continue to trust Greenberg Traurig with their most complex matters. Congratulations to Skip on this well-deserved honor.”

Watson will be presented the award at the Annual Texas Supreme Court Historical Society Dinner on Sept. 6 in Austin.
