Locke Lord LLP issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
Houston Associate Emma Doineau, a member of Locke Lord’s Business Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, was profiled in an article from The Texas Lawbook detailing her extensive pro bono work that resulted in her client being awarded over $236,000 in refund checks from the IRS and the dismissal of the agency’s $100,000 claim against him. Over three years, Doineau volunteered more than 200 hours to the IRS dispute process and federal lawsuit, representing the client through Houston Volunteer Lawyers, the pro bono legal aid arm of the Houston Bar Association. Doineau was honored by the organization for her tireless work on the case with an Outstanding Pro Bono Achievement award at an event held in conjunction with National Pro Bono Week.
The client commented: “She told me, ‘we will figure it out together,’ and that we were going to take on the IRS. Emma’s tenacity speaks for itself." He told Doineau, "If it wasn’t for you, I don’t know where I would be today. Probably still living in my truck.”
