WILTON — A Houston woman is claiming a debt collection agency sent her harassing texts and used abusive tactics such as threatening litigation and ruining her credit if she did not make an immediate, large payment.

Emily Pap filed a complaint Nov. 5 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Genesis Credit Management, LLC alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

In her suit, Pap alleges that she began to receive text messages in February of 2019 from Genesis and that the defendant's "falsely threatened to take legal action" against her as well as "destroy" her credit if she did make a large payment immediately.

Pap seeks monetary relief of $1,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is  represented by Jody Burton of The Lemberg Law Firm LLC in Wilton, Connecticut.
