AUSTIN — A Gregg County woman claims her employer fired her because she could not work on Saturdays due to attending worship services.

Brittany Mayfield filed a complaint Nov. 5 in the Tyler Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Healthcare Services Group, Inc and HCSG Staff Leasing Solutions, LLC alleging violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Mayfield worked as a housekeeper and provided written notice to her employer, the defendants, on January 28, 2017 informing them that she could not work on Saturdays due to her worship services at  God's Final Warning Ministries. According to the suit, her congregation has "prayer and rest from sunset on Fridays to sunset on Saturdays" and church members do not work during that time. In April of 2018, she claims she was fired due to her religious beliefs and received a right to sue from the EEOC.

Mayfield seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Kell Simon of The Law Offices of Kell A. Simon in Austin
