Reed Smith LLP issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.
Miami-based José I. Astigarraga and Houston-based Nicolas Borda have earned rankings from Chambers and Partners for their work in Latin America and Mexico.
Astigarraga earned a Band 1 ranking for International Arbitration – International Counsel (which replaces the previous “Latin America-wide” category). Borda was ranked for Energy & Natural Resources – Mexico.
Reed Smith’s International Arbitration – International Counsel practice also earned a Chambers Latin America 2022 ranking.
Astigarraga “holds a position of immense respect in the Latin American arbitration market,” Chambers and Partners said, adding that he “employs his exceptional knowledge of arbitration matters to assist an array of prestigious corporate clients with highly sophisticated commercial and investor-state arbitration cases in the region.”
Borda, who joined Reed Smith in January 2020, “benefits from a long track record in the Mexican energy and natural resources domain,” the guide said, adding a client quote saying: "He is a very renowned and consolidated lawyer in the energy space."
Chambers and Partners described the arbitration practice as a “deeply admired dispute resolution practice highly sought after for its Latin American arbitration expertise. Excels at handling complex commercial arbitration cases, frequently advising clients on claims arising out of construction and financial disputes. Also adept at representing investors in significant investment treaty arbitration mandates.”
Reed Smith's Latin America team handles a range of transactions, projects, disputes, and other matters throughout Latin America and employs dual-qualified lawyers covering a variety of jurisdictions.
