HOUSTON – The Harris County Municipal Utility District wants to pursue a lawsuit against MidAmerican, an electricity provider that allegedly charged excessive prices during Winter Storm Uri.

On Aug. 12, the district sent a contingent contract to the Office of the Attorney General for approval.

The district claims MidAmerican’s excessive prices during the freeze are in violation of the company’s contract to provide fixed rates.

The total disputed bill is for approximately $126,000 with $24,000 constituting ancillary fees, records show.

A resolution regarding approval of legal services contract was approved by the district on July 7 and shows the board approved the engagement of the Potts Law Firm.

Potts Law is currently leading national litigation in relation to natural gas price gouging related to Winter Storm Uri.

Potts law also previously filed a class action complaint on behalf of several Texans who purchased electricity services from Mid American and were allegedly charged exorbitant prices.

The district’s request for OAG approval was sent by the Allen Boone Humphries Robinson law firm in Houston, records show.
