HOUSTON – The First Court of Appeals today affirmed a judgment in favor of attorney U.A. Lewis and The Lewis Law Group.

Court records show Pamela Hall sued Lewis for professional negligence and breach of contract after her property damage lawsuit was dismissed on statute of limitations grounds.

In response, Lewis filed a counterclaim, arguing Hall failed to pay the entire amount of the initial retainer fee.

The trial court held a bench trial and found in favor of Hall, awarding her $400 in damages. Lewis filed a motion for new trial, which was granted, court records show.

After a second bench trial, the trial court found that Lewis timely filed Hall’s property damage suit within the applicable statute of limitations and Hall breached the parties’ legal services contract by failing to pay the full retainer, awarding Lewis $700 in damages and $640 in attorney’s fees.

Hall appealed and justices concluded that there was sufficient evidence to support the trial court’s award of $640 in attorney’s fees to Lewis and her law firm.

Justices also held that Lewis timely filed Hall’s suit.
