Steptoe & Johnson PLLC h issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.
Steptoe & Johnson PLLC has named Monté L. Williams the Managing Member of its office in The Woodlands. Williams will oversee day-to-day operations of the office in addition to maintaining his legal practice.
“Art Standish has served ably and well as Managing Member in The Woodlands for nearly seven years. We are grateful for his service, and we are pleased that Monté has agreed to take over the role as Art returns to the full-time practice of law,” said Steptoe & Johnson CEO Christopher L. Slaughter. “Monté is a proven leader within the firm and in the legal community. Our team in The Woodlands office is in very capable hands.”

Williams is the leader of Steptoe & Johnson’s General Litigation Practice Group and Emergency Response Team. His practice focuses on litigation, representing clients in numerous industries including retail, insurance, energy, and construction. He also conducts negotiations and investigations on his clients’ behalf to help them avoid costly litigation.
Williams is the chair of Steptoe & Johnson’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for 2022 and Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. He serves in multiple leadership roles within the Defense Research Institute and the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys. Williams is also an active member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel. Williams is a past fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity. He joined Steptoe & Johnson in 2003.
He earned his law degree, master’s degree, and bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University.
Steptoe & Johnson opened its office in The Woodlands in 2013, and opened additional Texas locations in Dallas, San Antonio, and Collin County in 2021.
