Polsinelli’s Intellectual Property Department Welcomes Jeffrey D. Chi as Counsel

Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli is pleased to announce that Jeffrey D. Chi has joined the firm as Counsel in the Houston office. Chi joins Polsinelli’s growing Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Patent Prosecution Group, and the firm now has 17 intellectual property attorneys based in Houston.

Chi is an intellectual property attorney with experience working with multiple international computer and telecommunications companies prosecuting and obtaining patents involving networking technologies such as 5G, LTE, and Wi-Fi radio protocols, as well as software and electronic technologies such as image processing, cloud computing, networking technologies, user interfaces, microcontrollers, and processor pipeline operations. He also has extensive experience working with AI technologies such as deep learning, neural networks, and AI accelerator circuits.

“Jeffrey’s credentials and depth of expertise in patent prosecution and counseling bring great value to our clients in Houston and nationally,” said Polsinelli Intellectual Property Department Chair Patrick C. Woolley. “His experience representing international computer technologies and telecommunications companies – paired with his software development background – gives him the business insights and perspective our clients value.”

Chi has previously represented an international manufacturer of cellular phones in a patent infringement lawsuit, helping to remove numerous patents from the case. He has also represented a manufacturer of telecommunications products in a patent infringement lawsuit to obtain a dismissal of the case by a non-practicing entity.

Chi earned his bachelor’s degree at Carleton College before obtaining his J.D., cum laude, at The University of Houston Law Center. Prior to law school, he worked as a software development engineer at Microsoft. He is also conversational in Mandarin.
