Cuneyt A. Akay and Michael X. Marinelli to Present at Texas General Counsel Forum

Cuneyt A. Akay and Michael X. Marinelli, shareholders of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s White Collar Defense & Special Investigations Practice, will present a virtual continuing legal education (CLE) program for the Texas General Counsel Forum (TGCF) Aug. 9.

Akay and Marinelli will present “Assessing Compliance Programs and Risks During Pandemic Volatility,” a panel discussion of how to assess the impact of the pandemic on compliance programs and the risks in a volatile environment. The panel also will discuss U.S. Department of Justice guidance on evaluating corporate compliance programs, COVID-19-specific risk factors, key sources of risk, program effectiveness data, and remediation of program weaknesses.

The TGCF has more than 650 general and senior managing counsel members representing over 450 companies throughout the state of Texas, according to the TGCF website. This CLE program is hosted for TGCF in-house members and prospective in-house members. TGCF has been serving in-house leadership since 1998.

Akay is a compliance, investigations, and anti-corruption lawyer. He designs, builds, and implements effective compliance programs for clients around the world. Akay’s experience includes performing compliance risk assessments, handling pre-and post-acquisition compliance due diligence, training staff and third parties on compliance requirements, and assisting in the monitoring and auditing of anti-corruption programs. He has also conducted internal investigations for mid-sized companies to Fortune 50 companies in connection with potential violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other anti-corruption laws.

Marinelli has wide-ranging experience advising clients on compliance with the U.S. laws and regulations that apply to international operations and transactions. He focuses his practice on the FCPA, as well as U.S. export control regulations, including Export Administration Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and the economic sanctions regimes enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
