Bradley is pleased to announce that Stephen M. Fernelius has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner in the Energy Practice Group.

“Steve brings more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry and has a strong reputation as a leading energy litigator for his work on high-level business disputes and injury cases,” said Bradley Houston Office Managing Partner Robert Ford. “With the planned expansion of our office space and increased focus on our energy practice, Steve’s arrival continues our strategic growth plan in Houston while bolstering the level of energy work being done out of our Texas markets.”

Mr. Fernelius is known for handling high-profile and complex litigation with a focus on the energy and construction industries, bringing a sophisticated approach to understanding how each matter affects his clients’ business and working to resolve their problems. He regularly represents some of the largest international and domestic oil and gas companies in matters involving significant personal injury claims, ranging from catastrophic explosions to security incidents. Mr. Fernelius plans to further develop his practice through Bradley’s larger and more comprehensive platform, which encompasses energy, construction, oil and gas law, and litigation, among others.

“The addition of Steve on the heels of Meghan McElvy truly enhances our Oil & Gas Law team and expands our capabilities in all areas of the oil and gas industry, including upstream, regulatory, international arbitration and downstream,” said Jeff Davis, co-chair of Bradley’s Oil & Gas Law team. “Steve and Meghan have practices that complement strategic focal points for the firm, including energy and construction, and their practices will have an immediate impact on the trajectory of work being done for our clients.”

Ms. McElvy joined Bradley’s Houston office as a partner in the Energy Practice Group in December 2022 and focuses her practice on energy litigation. She routinely advises energy clients on disputes arising from virtually every aspect of the development of shale plays and horizontal drilling throughout Texas and the U.S., and also counsels clients regarding offshore energy matters.

Prior to joining Bradley, Mr. Fernelius founded and led the Houston litigation boutique firm Fernelius Mace PLLC, which held a national Tier 2 ranking in the 2022 U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” in the area of Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions – Defendants. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2008 and in Texas Super Lawyers since 2011. Mr. Fernelius is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Association of Defense Council, as well as the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Houston Bar Association. He earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University.

Bradley’s Energy Practice Group is a full-service, multidisciplinary legal team that helps clients negotiate and develop successful projects across the world in the dynamic industry. The firm’s Oil and Gas Law team provides business and litigation support for companies of all sizes, from publicly traded global entities to small private businesses.
