The Houston Business Journal has selected Partner, John Lewis, Jr. as an honoree: Outstanding Head of Diversity. The honor awards the achievements of executives or businesspeople who have displayed leadership, commitment and motivation in driving the diversity and inclusion agenda in their organizations or the community at large.
Lewis leads the Houston office of Shook as managing partner and has more than 25 years of broad-based experience as a trial lawyer in private practice and as in-house litigation and compliance counsel. As the current chair of Shook’s Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives, his background enables him to bring solutions-based perspectives to his clients, drawing on a range of legal disciplines and a proven track record of success in legal and community affairs.
During his leadership, Shook earned Mansfield Rule certification; a process which requires law firms to consider at least 30% historically underrepresented lawyers when promoting or appointing to leadership roles. Nearly half of Shook’s executive committee is composed of women and diverse attorneys, and women and diverse attorneys lead a number of the firm’s city offices including Chicago, Hartford, Houston, Orange County and Tampa.
Each year, The Houston Business Journal recognizes individuals for showing exceptional commitment to promoting practices that advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The honorees will be awarded at the 2023 Diversity in Business Awards luncheon on March 30th at 11 a.m. CT.
