AUSTIN – Butler Snow has announced that Cory R. Liu has joined the firm as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group in the Austin, Texas, office. His practice will focus on civil litigation and appellate advocacy, a press release states.

Liu previously served as assistant general counsel to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, spearheading the governor’s regulatory reform initiative and working with lawmakers and agencies on administrative law and occupational licensing issues in the state of Texas. Before his role working with Governor Abbott, Liu clerked for two federal appellate judges and interned on the Texas Supreme Court.
Liu currently serves as President of the Federalist Society’s Austin Lawyers Chapter and previously served on the State Bar of Texas’s Diversity in the Profession Committee. In 2019, he was recognized as one of Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 for Law and Policy.
Cory Liu received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and obtained his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.
