McGuireWoods is a finalist for the Austin Chamber’s 2023 Austin Gives Employee Engagement Award, which recognizes companies that promote volunteerism and community engagement with nonprofits.
The firm’s Austin office is one of two finalists in the small business category, which is based on the number of local company employees. Winners will be announced Aug. 29 during a luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin.
McGuireWoods collaborates with nonprofit partners to provide pro bono services across the Austin metro area to address unmet legal needs. These include multiple events each year to assist military veterans, including low-income, unemployed, disabled and homeless veterans who struggle to access and afford legal counsel. McGuireWoods volunteers have organized pro bono legal clinics to help veterans apply for military benefits and petition for criminal record expungements, among other services.
“Our team in Austin is committed to giving back to our community, and pro bono service is a vital part of that commitment,” said partner Peyton Smith, pro bono leader in the Austin office. “We are honored to be recognized by the Austin Chamber for this important and rewarding work.”
In 2022, McGuireWoods received the National Veterans Legal Services Program’s Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award. The honor recognized the extraordinary pro bono services provided by McGuireWoods and the firm’s commitment to serving veterans.
