BTI’s annual Litigation Outlook has once again recognized BakerHostetler as one of the nation’s leading litigation firms, spotlighting its cybersecurity, intellectual property, labor and employment, products liability, class action defense and commercial litigation prowess.
Each year, BTI Consulting honors litigation firms that are valorous, savvy and unabating in their legal acumen. Consistently ranked among the best of the best, BakerHostetler continues to make a strong showing and is well known for having super-smart, energized and mobilized attorneys.
“For the third year in a row, corporate counsel recognize BakerHostetler for innovative approaches to litigation, placing the firm in the elite ranks of BTI Intimidating Opponents, one of a small number of firms clients don’t want to see on the other side of the table,” said Michael B. Rynowecer, president of The BTI Consulting Group. “This is valued by clients and is a real source of strength.”
Digital assets and data management
The Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group remains a “Powerhouse,” in the top 1% of its legal peers, for data privacy class action litigation. The group has held this ranking for three consecutive years. The group is currently handling a wide variety of such matters across industries and making new case law every day. In fact, it was recognized by Law360 as a “Legal Lion” in relation to the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals reversal of class certification in the Marriott case.
“These cases affect how clients do business, and we are helping our clients navigate these complex issues,” said Ted Kobus, Baker Hostetler’s DADM Practice Group chair. “We have defeated class certification seven times in privacy and cybersecurity class actions, including recently in a pixel adtech case.”
Litigation
Known as a “go-to” practice for its deep bench, commitment to client needs and experience managing big cases, the firm’s Litigation Practice Group was again named an Intimidating Opponent in the BTI report. It was one of only 44 firms to be recognized in this category.
Additionally, BakerHostetler’s Class Action Defense and Product Liability and Toxic Tort teams were recognized in the Leaders category, honoring the top 3% and top 2% of law firms, respectively. The Commercial Litigation team was also recognized in the Leaders category for Complex Commercial Litigation (top 3%) and in the Distinguished category for Commercial Litigation, which honors the top 5% of all firms.
“BakerHostetler has a 400-lawyer litigation bench handling bet-the-company cases on a daily basis. It is an honor to have the BTI report consistently recognize our firm,” said Ray Whitman, chair of BakerHostetler’s national Litigation Practice Group. “We continue to add exceptional trial lawyers to our group and achieve impressive results for our clients, which helps us maintain our position as the right choice for big litigation.”
Labor and employment
BTI also recognized BakerHostetler’s Labor and Employment Practice Group in the Distinguished category for complex employment litigation, placing the firm in the top 4% of firms nationwide.
“We develop a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and form relationships lasting years and even decades,” said Labor and Employment Practice Group chair Amy Traub. “The knowledge we gain from long associations and collaborations gives us the insight to help clients overcome major challenges and achieve ambitious goals. We appreciate this recognition, especially during a time of rapidly evolving employment laws and societal shifts that can easily disrupt our clients’ businesses and impact their goals.”
Intellectual property
BakerHostetler’s full-service Intellectual Property Practice Group was named a litigation Standout by BTI, representing just the top 11% of firms nationwide. The IP Practice Group’s sophisticated roster provides counsel to businesses and individuals who are global, national and local leaders in their market segments. No stranger to recognition, the group is regularly recognized by Chambers USA, The Legal 500, IAMS and World Trademark Review, among others.
“A company’s intellectual property is vitally important to its success, and our IP litigation team knows what it takes to protect and defend our clients’ assets,” said Mark H. Tidman, IP Practice Group chair. “We are trusted advisers to our clients, and it is gratifying to be included in the BTI litigation report for the second year in a row.”
