Ashley Aten, shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Dallas office, was selected as a 2024 Dallas Business Journal (DBJ) Leader in Diversity honoree.

“Greenberg Traurig Dallas is fortunate to have an attorney like Ashley who impacts the lives of others and advances equality,” said Joseph F. Coniglio, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Dallas office. “She is intentional in her efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Dallas community and legal market, and we are thrilled that DBJ has recognized her.”

Aten is passionate about serving her community and does so through various organizations. For years, she has advocated to make the legal profession a more welcome and empowering place for all attorneys. Aten believes that closing the diversity gap requires continuous efforts and the fostering of a more family-friendly and inclusive workplace. For this reason, she led the charge to enhance paternal leave policies at various firms where she has worked. She successfully moved those firms to increase both the funds received and the duration of the leave by presenting market data. Coming from a culture that emphasizes the importance of family, Aten says that she sees this as a critical change for the legal profession to become more accessible to attorneys who share her background and lived experiences.

“Thank you to the Dallas Business Journal for recognizing the contribution of leaders in diversity in Dallas. It is humbling to be included alongside such an inspiring group,” Aten said. “I look forward to continuing to give my time to advancing DEI efforts and paving the way for the next generation.”

The program honors those "who have shown exceptional commitment to promoting practices that advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in business leadership and who bolster equality across all areas of diversity; including age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race and religion," according to the Dallas Business Journal.

Aten advises clients on diverse and complex real estate transactions, focusing on commercial real estate development, ownership, acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and leasing. She counsels landowners, investors, developers, public companies, operators, equity partners, and retailers on matters involving retail, multifamily, office, and industrial properties, both in Texas and throughout the United States.

Aten was selected as a 2022 Dallas Hispanic Bar Association Woman of Distinction which is presented to members who whole-heartedly give to the association and the community.

Honorees are listed online and will be recognized at an award ceremony Feb.15 and in print Feb. 16.
