University of Houston Law Center alumni who have reached the significant milestone of 50 or more years since their graduation were honored during a Golden Brunch this May, with more than 100 alumni attending despite a devastating storm the night before the event.
Among the honorees was John Jay Toomey (’50, J.D. ’51) who was part of the school’s second graduating class in 1951. Each class from 1974 and back was recognized, with alumni sharing fond memories and reconnecting over brunch.
UHLC Dean Leonard M. Baynes presented an update on the Law Center, expressing gratitude to the trailblazing alumni for setting high standards for the students who are following in their footsteps.
“I’ve met so many of these alumni multiple times either individually or in small groups. It was terrific seeing them all together — 100 strong — and the energy and excitement that the brunch generated. I am delighted that we will make this an annual event to further the connection among this pioneering group," said Baynes.
Next year’s Golden Brunch is scheduled for May 1, 2025, at 9:45 a.m. at The Briar Club.
