The University of Houston Law Center ((UHLC), Global and Graduate Programs, Global Training Program, welcomed 23 U.S. embassy representatives from Ecuador and Panama last week to participate in a customized U.S. Legal Skills Training.

Karen Jones, UHLC Executive Director of Global and Graduate Programs, arranged and facilitated the event and discussed the LL.M Programs, Legal English Certificate (LEC) Program, and customized training opportunities.

“We are excited to welcome the delegations from Ecuador and Panama. What a privilege to meet this incredible group of people. It has been a pleasure spending time with them and to deliver this training opportunity.” said Jones.  “We have worked with many consulates and embassies around the world. We welcome these important collaborations and opportunities to serve this community of legal professionals.”

The intensive week-long training covered a range of topics including comparative law, criminal law, legal research and writing, statutes and case law analysis, legal English and much more. UHLC professors Katherine Brem, David Kwok, and Laurel Simmons instructed the training sessions. A U.S. District Judge, practitioners legal panel, and a welcome by Executive Director of the Institute for Global Engagement and former U.S. Ambassador Michael Pelletier, were just a few of the highlights of the program. Participants were taken on a tour of the John M. O’Quinn Law Building by UHLC student ambassadors.
