Texas Law and its supporters are once again making a major investment in public service and public interest careers for students.

Beginning in 2025, postgraduate fellowships will enjoy an annual salary of $75,000, up from $60,000.

“This is part of our core mission,” says Dean Bobby Chesney. “Postgraduate fellowships are essential to launching careers in public service. To be a true engine of opportunity for our students means ensuring that these invaluable opportunities are in fact affordable opportunities.”

In addition, the school has recently secured funding for four additional postgraduate fellowships, earmarked for work in civil rights and civil justice, as well as environmental law. These new fellowships will bring the total number of available postgraduate fellowships up to 11. As recently as 2022, that total was five.

“Texas Law has long been a leader in supporting public service legal work,” observes Eden Harrington, the associate dean for experiential education. “I am gratified that, as the demand and opportunities have grown, so has the school’s support.”

Postgraduate fellowships are administered by the law school’s William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law, and its director, Nicole Simmons ’07.

“This is amazing news for our students,” says Simmons. “These new salaries and new opportunities will make a huge and positive difference in outcomes for those seeking careers in the public interest. This is a great development for our community.”
