Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is pleased to welcome veteran tax attorney James Reardon to its Litigation practice in Houston, Texas. He joins the firm’s Tax Controversy and Litigation Team from Porter Hedges, bringing more than 34 years of experience advising public and private companies on sophisticated corporate and tax matters.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jim as the newest partner to our Houston office. His exceptional expertise in complex U.S. and international tax matters and proven track record of success align perfectly with our commitment to providing best-in-class service to our clients,” said Houston office managing partner Craig Dillard. “As we continue to grow in the Texas market, he will be instrumental in strengthening our tax practice and expanding our capabilities across the United States.”

Reardon assists businesses in reducing or eliminating federal corporate income tax while achieving both operational and transactional objectives. He advises publicly traded companies on consolidated return rules, tax-free reorganizations, recapitalizations, and withholding tax issues. He also brings significant experience preserving net operating losses (NOLs) during ownership changes, managing the tax implications of debt modifications and cancellations, and guiding the issuance of debt and equity instruments.

“Houston continues to be a key growth market for us, and bringing in elite talent like Jim reflects both our momentum and our vision,” said partner Juan Vasquez, Jr., chair of the firm’s Tax Controversy and Litigation Team. “Jim is a nationally respected practitioner and will be a huge asset to our team as we continue to expand across Texas and beyond.”

Reardon also advises a diverse range of investment funds, including private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and mezzanine funds, on tax structuring and compliance matters.

“I’m thrilled to join Nelson Mullins at such an exciting time in the firm’s growth, particularly in the Texas market,” Reardon said. “I’m looking forward to working with this dynamic team and contributing to its continued success and commitment to achieving client goals and vision.”
