HOUSTON – The Court of Appeals for the 1st District of Texas denied a doctor’s motion to reverse a trial court decision May 15 in a case filed by a man who alleged he was subjected to unnecessary surgery.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court confirmed federal jurisdiction in Texas’ lawsuit against New Mexico on March 5, ordering the case involving water rights to the Rio Grande River to be remanded back to the Special Master.

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is challenging a U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas ruling that declared Texas district maps were drawn with the intent to discriminate against minorities.

AUSTIN – In an opinion delivered Feb. 2, the Texas Supreme Court overturned the dismissal of a woman’s medical malpractice lawsuit after it was dismissed by a court of appeals on the grounds that her expert report was deficient.

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas 13th Court of Appeals in Corpus Christi has ordered a lower court to revisit a ruling denying arbitration in a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges her brother’s body was embalmed without her consent, infested with insects during the viewing at their parlor, and buried without his organs.

HOUSTON – A former Metro Transit employee's suit against Metro over claims he was fired in retaliation for complaints he made claiming he was subjected to a hostile work environment after he did not agree to be what he called his supervisor’s “snitch” has been dismissed with prejudice.

DALLAS – On Dec. 21, the 5th District of Texas at Dallas Court of Appeals reversed a decision by a lower court to impose a “death penalty sanction” against debt recovery company NRG & Associates when it did not appear in mediation for the lawsuit brought against it by Service Transfer Inc.

&&& BEAUMONT – An appellate court has upheld a lower court's decision denying the city of Beaumont's plea to the jurisdiction in a breach of contract case.

HOUSTON – The Houston Aquarium and Landry's Inc. have filed a motion to dismiss a Texas woman's suit alleging that the tigers at the Downtown Aquarium are being mistreated.

TYLER – A federal court has denied a motion to reconsider a magistrate judge's denial of their motions to join and intervene in a patent infringement case.

SAN ANTONIO – Texas state Sen. Carlos Uresti and a defendant in another alleged fraud scheme, Dr. David Dubin, are both facing serious federal charges in court in separate cases. They both chose Michael McCrum of McCrum Law Offices in San Antonio to represent them.
