Family seeks money following man's death during arteriogram

The wife and children of a recently deceased man blame doctors at Renaissance Hospital Groves for causing his death during an X-ray procedure.

Lisa G. Martin, Sarah Elizabeth Martin and Hope Lynae Martin filed a lawsuit March 5 in Jefferson County District Court against Kiglapait Hospital Corp. doing business as Renaissance Hospital Groves, Dr. Murlidhar Amin, Dr. Wesley Palmer, Dr. Saeed Ally, Dr. Thomas Konjoyan and Dr. John Quinn.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs allege their husband and father, Joe E. Martin, underwent an arteriogram procedure on March 4, 2011, at Renaissance Hospital Groves. During an arteriogram, doctors attempt to obtain an X-ray image of the blood vessels by utilizing an IV to inject a contrast dye into the body’s circulatory system.

During the procedure, however, Joe Martin died, according to the complaint.

Because of Joe E. Martin’s death, his wife and children suffered mental anguish and lost his care, comfort, solace, companionship, protection, services and physical relations, the suit states.

The plaintiffs blame Renaissance Hospital Groves and the doctors for causing Joe Martin’s death, saying they negligently failed to warn of the dangers resulting from their incompetent treatment, failed to properly perform medical treatments, failed to recognize the symptoms that resulted from the treatment and failed to fully disclose the risks associated with arteriogram.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs seek unspecified damages and exemplary damages, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Scott W. Wert of Foster and Sear in Grand Prairie will be representing them.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
