A Jefferson County citizen filed a lawsuit against a municipality seeking protection and injunctive action against the defendant to save the property he acquired in 2014 from demolition.
Sergio Escobedo filed a complaint against the city of Beaumont in Galveston County District Court on June 18, requesting a restraining order against the jurisdiction to prevent it from razing property he bought in September 2014 with the intention of renovating it for commercial use.
According to the suit, Escobedo purchased real property located at 1790 College in Beaumont in order to save it from demolition on or about Sept. 23, 2014.
The plaintiff alleges that if the city is allowed to proceed, he will suffer irreparable damages, injury, dramatically reduced property value, and a total loss of his investment. The suit further states that Escobedo’s prospects for future commercial use of the property would be compromised.
Seeking a restraining order and temporary injunction enjoining the defendant and its agents and employees, Escobedo states that he would post reasonable bond.
The plaintiff requests between $200,000 and $1 million in compensation, attorney’s fees, expenses, and costs. Escobedo is represented by Justin Sanderson of Sanderson Law Firm in Beaumont.
