Greyhound drops appeal of $780K exemplary award

At the request of Greyhound Lines, the Texas Ninth Court of appeals on Thursday granted a motion to dismiss appeal.

Court records show Caitlin and Jennifer Hassler filed a personal injury suit against Greyhound and two individuals in Montgomery County District Court.

The case went to trial in March. A final judgment was entered April 8, awarding the plaintiffs $780,000 in exemplary damages.

Greyhound appealed the judgment on July 9, court records show.

On Dec. 4 Greyhound and fellow defendant Paul Flueckiger filed an unopposed motion to dismiss appeal with prejudice, stating the parties had reached a settlement.

A month later, Ninth Court justices granted the motion, issuing a memorandum opinion on Jan. 15.

Greyhound is represented in part by Brent Cooper and Diana Faust, attorneys for the Dallas law firm Cooper & Scully.

The case was tried in Judge Cara Wood’s 284th District Court.
