A civil trial began Monday in Midland over a veterans’ parade crash that killed four and wounded many others when a Union Pacific Railroad train collided with a float.
The incident made national headlines in November 2012 after a flatbed truck carrying wounded veterans and their spouses collided with a UPR locomotive.
A federal investigation found the city and parade organizers were at fault in causing the incident.
The Houston Chronicle is reporting the trial involves the remaining plaintiffs who did not reach a settlement with UPR on Jan. 16.
The incident transpired on Nov. 15, 2012. Thirteen days later, the victims and their families filed suit against UPR, alleging the company was negligent in operating the crossing.
During the investigation of the incident, the National Transportation Safety Board concluded the crossing signals were activated at the time.
