Couple accuses day care of neglect

A Galveston County couple has sued a day care center, alleging neglect in the injury of their child.

Erin Mayo and Herman Mayo, individually and on behalf of their child, filed charges Jan. 12 in Galveston County District Court against League Angels Inc., doing business as Lighthouse Learning Academy of Richmond, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the couple entrusted the day care facility with care of their 23-month-old son. When an employee slid down the center’s playground slide with the child on her lap, on Oct. 7, 2013, the suit states, he began to cry in pain and she removed him from the slide.

The suit states Lighthouse Learning failed to inform the parents of the incident, and that the boy had suffered a broken leg.

Alleging negligence, the couple seeks damages for physical and mental pain, disfigurement, medical expenses, costs and fees. They are represented by attorney Rich Melendez of Melendez Law of Houston.
