Galveston accident results in lawsuit

A Galveston County woman sued a driver for damages allegedly sustained in a car accident.

Angelica Turner filed a lawsuit Jan. 6 in the Galveston County District Court against Roslyn Baptiste, of Kemah, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Turner was driving in Galveston on Jan. 27, 2014, when she stopped at a red light and her car was rear-ended by another vehicle. That vehicle, in turn, was rear-ended by Baptiste's car, the suit states.

The suit says Turner suffered whiplash when her head struck the headrest in the secondary collision, leading to neck and other bodily injuries. The defendant failed to control her vehicle, keep a lookout, maintain a safe distance, brake promptly and operate her vehicle carefully, according to the suit.

Turner alleges past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical disfigurement, lost wages and earning capacity, and loss of use of her vehicle.

She seeks compensation between $100,000 and $200,000 for monetary damages, front and back pay, fees, attorney fees, expenses, and costs. Turner is represented by attorney Kenneth R. Baird of the Baird Law Firm in Houston.
