Verizon sues food company after trucker strikes cable

A communications company has sued a food business over an accident allegedly caused by one of the food business' drivers.

GTE Southwest Inc., doing business as Verizon Southwest, filed a lawsuit April 28 in Galveston County District Court against U.S. Foods Inc.

According to the complaint, on May 22, 2013, U.S. Foods and its worker, driving a tractor-trailer, struck the plaintiff's cable, causing damages totaling $6,330.85. The defendant's employee, the lawsuit states, failed to exercise ordinary care to prevent damaging the plaintiff's property and failed to keep a proper lookout.

Verizon Southwest seeks damages owed, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and court costs.

It is represented by attorney David C. Redford of Houston.
