The "Red, White & You!" kickoff party gave Lamar alumni and supporters a chance to mingle and catch up with old friends on April 8.
Lamar University President Jimmy Simmons previewed the upcoming "Jimmy Simmons & Friends" concert with a short jazz jam at the "Red,White & You!" kickoff party.
Lamar University kicked off the 2008 Red, White & You celebration with a mixer at Bistro Le Monde April 8.
Red, White & You is an annual series of events to acknowledge Lamar's positive impact on the community, and the community's continued support of Lamar.
Other activities will include the proclamation of Lamar University Day by the Beaumont City Council on April 29 and the Jimmy Simmons and Friends concert at the University's Montagne Center on May 3.
Simmons is not only president of Lamar University, but an accomplished jazz musician. He will perform and lead the performances of more than two dozen alumni musicians from around the country, many of whom Simmons instructed at the university.
Simmons gave a preview of the concert by playing with a jazz combo at the Red, White & You kickoff party.
