John Davis Coleman has filed a personal injury lawsuit against Christian Life Community Church Mid-County on March 23 in Jefferson County District Court.
The plaintiff, a former church employee, is claiming the place of worship was negligent in its duty to provide a safe place of work, and did not subscribe to workers' compensation insurance at the time of the injury.
Coleman cut his fingers off while operating a saw on church grounds.
According to the plaintiff's petition, on Feb. 8, 2007, he was using a saw provided by the church that lacked a safety guard.
Furthermore, Coleman claims the church and its employees failed to warn him of the saw's condition, failed to inspect the premise in order to discover the condition and failed to properly supervise him.
He is also suing the defendant for past and future physical pain and suffering and the "incalculable" mental anguish he sustained and will continue to sustain, the petition said.
In addition, Coleman is suing for past and future medical expenses, the loss of past and future earnings and for the physical impairment and disfigurement he now must bear.
Coleman is represented by Adam Terrell of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell, L.L.P. He is requesting a trial by jury.
The case is assigned to the 60th Judicial Court of Judge Gary Sanderson.
