Anthony and Coretta Alexander have brought a medical-malpractice lawsuit against the Medical Center of Southeast Texas and several of its physicians for failing to provide an ordinary standard of care.
According to the plaintiffs' original petition, filed with the Jefferson County District Court on June 1, the Medical Center, Dr. Marwan Purghol, Dr. James Shepherd, Dr. Dennis Eric Rose and Dr. Paul Henry Andreini failed "to correctly diagnose and treat Anthony Alexander's staphylococcus aureus blood infection."
The suit does not specify when or why Alexander was admitted to the hospital, or how failing to correctly diagnose his condition has caused him harm.
However, the suit does say the incident has caused Alexander to suffer physical and emotional pain, physical impairment and disfigurement, mental anguish and lost wages.
The suit also says the negligence of the defendants has caused Alexander's wife, Coretta, to suffer mental anguish and loss of consortium.
"It is yet too early to state with any certainly the full extent of plaintiffs' damages, but suffice to say that they are in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of this court," the suit said.
The couple is demanding a trial by jury, and they are represented by attorney Jim Perdue of the Perdue Law Firm.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
