- Lowe's Home Centers, Inc. vs. Jefferson County Appraisal District

Lowe's Home Centers, Inc. has filed suit against the Jefferson County Appraisal District, claiming its home improvement store, located off of Dowlen Road, "exceeds market value, is excessive and unlawful." Lowe's will ask Judge Wortham to "determine market value of (its) property and reduce its appraised value pursuant to the Texas Tax Code, sections 42.24 and 42.25.

- Ronnie Tejada vs. Naphcare Inc. et al
While locked up and awaiting trial at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, Ronnie Tejada received medical treatment. Tejada claims negligent medical care caused him to suffer injury and is suing. Virgilio Gernale, Naphcare Inc. and Naphcare's administrator, Dyni Brookshire. Tejada's two minor children are also plaintiffs in the suit. Tejada is suing for punitive and exemplary damages, plus past and future physical pain, disfigurement, mental anguish, impairment, medical expenses and lost wages. His children are suing for pecuniary loss, loss of counsel and loss off of positive benefits flowing from love provided by their father, plus mental anguish.

- James Walter Murray vs. The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. et al
PA - Bristol Baxley, J Ã¯Â¿Â½ Milton Shuffield
A railroad worker, James Walter Murray suffered a "debilitating" shoulder injury when he attempted to "throw a defective switch." Armed with the Federal Employers' Liability Act, legislation enacted to help railroad workers, Murray has filed suit against The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. and the Port of Port Arthur. The plaintiff is suing for past and future physical pain, mental anguish, loss of earnings, impairment, disfigurement and medical expenses.

- Frederick Goenne vs. A&W Aluminum Inc.
PA - William Sebesta, J Ã¯Â¿Â½ Milton Shuffield
Port Arthur resident Frederick Goenne and his insurance company, Allstate, say the fire that claimed his home was started in a faulty dryer vent, which was built by A&W Aluminum, better known as Windell Broussard Homes. Goenne and Allstate are suing A&W Aluminum for the price of his home, $275,000, plus his insurance deductible.

- Paul Perronne vs. Rowan Drilling Co. et al
PA - Brian Beckcom, J - Gary Sanderson
While severing as a cook aboard a drilling rig owned and operated by Rowan Drilling Co., Paul Perronne claims he was injured. He is invoking the Jones Act and suing Rowan and Sodexho for $1 million in damages.
