Pilgrims sue bus company over deadly crash

HOUSTON-A couple who were hurt in the Aug. 8 bus crash that killed 17 people and injured 38 others is seeking damages from Angel Tours Inc.

Plaintiffs Tuan Tran and Lisa Tran allege that a recapped tire blew out on the charter bus, sending it over a Highway 75 overpass near Sherman to the highway below in the early morning hours.

The 55 Vietnamese-American passengers on-board were traveling to Carthage, Mo., for a religious ceremony to honor the Virgin Mary, the complaint filed in Harris County Court says.

The Trans are also suing Iguala Busmex and Motor Coach Industries. The couple is represented by attorney Steven Kherker.

The lawsuit, filed Aug. 15, alleges that the bus company and its operators were negligent for failing to maintain the coach properly.

The plaintiffs requested a trial by jury and unspecified damages.
